I am interested in herding, how do I begin?

You do not have to be a club member in order to be a part of the herding group.  If you live in the Spokane area, members of the Spokane Dog Training Club are willing to help you get started.  Fill out the "Contact Us" form and someone will contact you.

What do I have to do in order to enter a herding trial?

Get a copy of the Herding Regulations from the American Kennel Club and make sure that you dog is able to compete as described.  Single copies of all AKC rules are regulations are free.  To request a copy, write: The American Kennel Club, 5580 Centerview Drive, Raleigh, NC 27606-3390.

What is the difference between a herding test and a herding trial?

A herding test is a pass/fail and is designed to test a dog's herding instinct ("Herding Test") and the dog's beginning training prior to entering a trial ("Pre-Trial Test").  A herding trial is scored.  Descriptions of the different levels can be found in the Herding Regulations.

How do I find the location of herding tests/trials and secretary contact information?

Go online to http://www.akc.org and search for herding test/trials under "Events".
