We do not offer formal classes in herding, however, we do hold AKC trials. SDTC members are involved in mentoring others in herding and participate in monthly meetings during the seasons when members are active in this sport.

SDTC holds three days of AKC Herding Trials (along with the Inland Empire Collie Club) on Labor Day weekend at Glen Tana Farms just north of Spokane.

Occasionally the Inland Empire Collie Club (IECC) also holds American Herding Breed Association trials during the summer.

Usually, in early June, a herding seminar is sponsored by SDTC, IECC or an individual in order to kick off the herding season.

The Herding Group puts out a herding calendar covering the months of June through August that includes several group meetings and fun matches.

Individuals pay a fee to use stock at the different facilities. Everyone is expected to help each other at the practice sessions and to help at the herding trials.
