When we first got Merlin he was just seven weeks old, and fearless. He thought he could fly through the sky and walk on water. Luckily as he got older he also acquired a little common sense.

I'll never forget his first swimming lesson down at the river. He was very tentative about getting his feet wet and I thought we would never get him to come in past his knees. All of a sudden he goes splashing out into the middle of the inlet to see his new "dog" friend with the buck teeth and the flat tail. Merlin has loved the water ever since that beaver taught him to swim.

Like most of the "Gray Ghosts" he loves to hunt upland birds. He has endless energy in the field and holds a beautiful point. He once saw an ostrich but was a little nervous to point just in case he might have to retrieve a bird that size! I believe his true talent lies in tracking. Weimaraners have Bloodhound in their lineage and Merlin's nose is always to the ground.

Despite Don's best efforts Merlin recently obtained his CD and is working on his CDX. He is also a CGC and is an avid flyball player.
